The Forbes list of billionaires shows the decline of traditional industries. The ranking of the richest people on the planet has changed rather significantly within a relatively short time. While at the beginning of the last decade, we could think that Bill Gate’s position of the wealthiest man on Earth is unquestioned, five years ago other businessmen who built their success on running technology businesses were breathing down his neck.

Nevertheless, in 2016 the founder of the technology giant Microsoft was safely in the lead on the list of the world’s billionaires. At that time, Forbes estimated Gate’s fortune at USD 75 billion (about CZK 1.63 trillion). Another technology business owner came fifth. It was the founder of Amazon, Jeff Bezos, being about USD 30 billion behind Gates.

The six technology billionaires in the top twenty in 2016 also included Mark Zuckerberg (USD 44.6 billion), Larry Ellison (43.6) and Google co-owners Larry Page (35.2) and Sergey Brin (34.4). Among the twenty richest people in the word, we could also find one from the finance and investment sector, Warren Buffet, and six owners of fashion and retail businesses; the entertainment and media, real estate and beer production sectors were also represented in the top twenty.
